The Toyota Environmental Activities Grant Program was inaugurated in 2000, commemorating TOYOTA's receipt of the prestigious Global 500 Award, to further demonstrate TOYOTA's responsibility for the environment and sustainable development. Since then, as part of its corporate philanthropic activities, TOYOTA has been conducting the Grant Program to support environmental activities implemented by NGOs and other non-profit private groups in Asia, America, Europe and Africa for the purpose of sustainable development.

The Toyota Environmental Activities Grant Program FY2011 now accepts Applications. The grant theme is "Biodiversity Conservation" targeting the activities in Asia, America, Europe and Africa, conducted by groups based in Japan or foreign groups collaborate with Japanese groups. 

Deadline: Application Period: From Friday, April 15 to Wednesday, June 15, 2011. Application must be arrived by June 15, 2011

Notification of Results: First-stage Selection - Applicants will be notified of results by e-mail in late July 2011. Detail on the final selection will be informed to the applicants who are qualified to the final selection with the results of first-stage selection. Final Selection: Applicants will be notified of results by e-mail by the end of October 2011.

Eligibility of Grantees: Believing that "making things is about educating people", TOYOTA has centralized its corporate activities on developing technology and human resources. TOYOTA considers that technological and human resource development is vital to deal with environmental challenges.

Private nonprofit institutions/organizations are eligible for the grant.

NPOs (Non-profit organizations), NGOs (Non-governmental organizations), charitable organizations and officially unregistered voluntary organizations or groups are also encouraged to apply.

[For-profits, national, regional and municipal government agencies, schools (including from kindergarten to universities) and international institutions (established by international agreements) are NOT eligible for this grant.]

Grant Budget /Project Period/ Project Implementation site(s) for the FY 2011 Program:  (1) The limit of the grant amount per project is seven million yen. (2) Up to two years (starting from January 2012) (3) Projects should be implemented in Asia, America, Europe and Africa.

Required documents  

1. Brochures that include applicants' information (such as the organizational structure, overview of project activities and financial statement) should be sent along with the Application forms for the final selection. In case an appropriate brochure is not available, please attach a sheet of paper describing the above-mentioned information.

2. Brochures of (local) counterpart(s) are also required in case of the project has counterpart(s).

3. Pictures of project implementation site(s) if available.

Selection Criteria

The proposed projects should acknowledge the Program objectives, key theme and fulfill the application requirements. The following criteria will be applied for applications.

Appropriateness of the project

·                                The projects that lead to "Biodiversity Conservation" or "Global Warming Countermeasures".

Efficiency of the project

·                       The project should raise environmental awareness and promote concrete environmental actions.

·                       The project should account for either a wide range of participation, leadership development, or localization of environmentally-sound technologies and systems in wide areas.

Cost-effectiveness of the project

·                       The project should be planned to make greatest achievements with minimum expense.

Continuity and future development of the project

·                       The project should result in continuing environmental educational activities and experience-based learning, creating/providing opportunities for such activities, and localization of experiment-based environmental technologies at the community level even after completion.

·                       The project should encourage participants to remain active in relevant areas after completion.

Collaboration among participants

·                       The project should enable the participation of diversified groups on the same footage and facilitate a mutual learning process.

·                       The project should fully consider local contexts and the needs of the project implementation site, such as natural environment, geography, culture, economy, community and history.

Qualification of the implementing organization

·                       The project members should include expertise and experiences associated with the project so that it duly achieves its goals.

·                       The project implementer should have the participation of environmentally-oriented local residents, practitioners and researchers in the project and build strategic alliance among the participants.

Funding sources

·                       The project should be implemented with the fund from Toyota Environmental Activities Grant Program, and with the self-fund as a supplement, if necessary.
